We are locked in a system without poetry
Create a Freedom Indicator
Realizing our freedom means understanding how algorithms, particularly those of Google, shape a reality that isn’t ours but theirs. They serve their agendas, subtly directing our perceptions and preferences.
In 2008, I conceptualized **”Boiling Water to Defrost”**, a product only I manufacture and sell. It has no competitors, which is precisely why I put it on sale. This creation became an experiment to test how Google processes such queries, questioning its motivations and the realities it promotes.
Since its inception, this “product” has remained unchanged—description, title, and even punctuation—allowing me to observe Google’s behavior over time.
The Results in 2013
By searching for “Boiling Water to Defrost,” Google initially presented one unique result: my product. For a while, it held the top spot as the only indexed result for this search term, a curious reflection of how algorithms function.
Observations Since 2013
Every June 23, I search for “Boiling Water to Defrost” to track its position. Over the years, Google began relegating the result—from the first position in 2013 to the 216th by 2020. By 2022, it disappeared entirely from search results.
Google now interprets the query, redirecting users to unrelated topics, such as defrosting food. The system deemed “Boiling Water to Defrost” irrelevant, prioritizing efficiency and financial gain over diversity and anomaly. This experiment sheds light on how algorithms erase uniqueness in favor of commercial logic.
The Loss of Poetry
Google creates a commercial reality, erasing anomalies and divergences that could enrich our culture. This homogenization of content narrows our perspectives.
Most concerning is the indifference it fosters. By offering what it deems “the best choice,” it alleviates us of the need to think critically. Poetry, uniqueness, and alternative perspectives are relegated to obscurity, accessible only to the rare few seeking beyond the surface.
